Ron Tiefenbacher - Biography
Ron Tiefenbacher (aka Dog Father)
Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Keyboard, and Vocals
Ron is known as the Dog Father for two reasons; first because he is the top dog (leader) of the band and second because he is the “father” of five real dogs. Ron bought his first guitar in the mid ‘60’s and began performing at age 12. Like many guitarists, Ron found his first band opportunity as a bass player and has been playing bass since 1969.
Ron’s played continuously through the ‘70’s in various rock bands, fusion jazz bands, university jazz ensembles, and even a polka band. He played guitar with Skyroad (classic rock), Heavy Duty (original rock), Wingspread (fusion Jazz), Bryan O’Donnell, and the Tic-Tac-Toes (polka – even recorded an album on the Blue Eagle record label), and played bass and piano for Ember or MBR (Top-40 and classic rock). Ron played with a traditional blues band, The Bings, for several years and a contemporary Christian group (Christian Country), Kingfisher, which had several recordings (Sound Knowledge records) that charted on the world wide Christian Country charts in which he played both bass and acoustic guitar.
Ron is an accomplished French horn player and started playing classical music in high school. His talent eventually led to orchestral performances with the Milwaukee Symphony Pops Orchestra, Milwaukee Civic Symphony Orchestra, St. Paul Civic Orchestra, Minneapolis Civic Orchestra, St. Paul Opera, Minnetonka Symphony Orchestra, Harmonia Mundi, Northern Chamber Winds, Canon Choir of Brass, as well as solo performances with Music for Youth Symphony Orchestra (Milwaukee) and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Wind Symphony, which included a European tour with a performance at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria (Mozart’s birthplace).
Ron holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with honors in Musical Performance with a specialty in low brass instruments from the University of Wisconsin. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and after living in Minneapolis, Detroit and Boston, moved to Tennessee in 2005. After moving here, he’s played in church groups as well as played bass in two community musicals; Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown.
